Lighting Design is getting disrupted by emerging 3D printing possibilities

It has always been ┬áthe goal of 3D printing experts to be able to design a structure that is flexible and drapes like a fabric. When produced with a translucent material like Polyamide (Nylon), and used in design of a lighting fixture, the result is a mesmerising mix of textures and light filtering through the material’s partial transparency that varies with thickness. In this lamp, designed by Cozi Studio, 3D printed flexible, lace like fabric drapes gracefully over a spherical luminaire, producing a interesting product silhouette never seen before in lighting design.

As designers begin experimenting with technical textiles, new-gen products disrupt the markets

The new Baggizmo textile bag is one such example where several technical, hi-performance textiles have been used create an ingenious new product. The bag offers a unique way of carrying your personal items, like a tablet, two smartphones, keys, wallet, power stick, pencil, a pad of paper and more. Multiple-sized pockets are placed in ergonomic directions or orientation on the body and sizes corresponding to the devices they house. Channels between pockets provide clearance for charge cables and headphones. An NFC tag allows the transfer of data such as texts or numbers wirelessly.

An outer layer is made of a special textile that is abrasion resistant, breathable, has two-way-stretch, and is wind, UV and water repellent. The innermost lining is made of microfiber fabrics, a textile often used to clean screens, to ensure a scratch-free casing. The straps are made of a composite weave that has a soft feel but is extremely rugged in performance.

The bag is wearable over a T-shirt or shirt, under or over a jacket or business suit. Contoured to human body the bag offers a slim profile even when itÔÇÖs full….exactly what I want!
